What Can I Expect From Telephone Counselling?

What to expect from Telephone counselling

Telephone counselling works much the same as in-person counselling and is very similar to online counselling except you’re sat in the comfort of your own home or wherever you choose to have your counselling (during the pandemic, I had to resort to having my own counselling in my car as it was the only privacy I could find!) and you cannot see your counsellor. However, a lot can be done through the use of your voice and the silences shared.

There are many reasons you might opt for telephone counselling over video counselling. Perhaps you feel uncomfortable with being on camera, or maybe you’re not very technology minded so for you, the phone just seems like the easier option.

Or perhaps you’re opting for remote counselling because of a medical condition preventing you from leaving the house and over the phone seems best.

Telephone counselling also means that there is no commute, so you can save time and money travelling and just get cosy and ready for your session. You can even turn up in your pyjamas and freshly washed hair if you decide to – whatever is going to help you get the most out of your session.

So, what can you expect from a telephone counselling session?

When working with me, you can expect to be greeted with a warm hello on the other end of the phone. Much like in person, I feel it’s important to help you to feel welcomed and comfortable at a time when you’re probably feeling awkward and anxious.

On the day and time of your arranged session, I will give you a call and your session will begin – that simple!

I always send a short list of tips to help you get the most out of any telephone session beforehand and you can use this to refer to if you’re unsure of anything but I’m always happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
